The Pastoral Search Committee (PSC)

The Pastoral Search Committee (PSC) is a team of 11 spiritually mature and discerning members established by the Diaconate Ministry, in consultation with the Senior Pastor. The PSC was established to lead the search process for our next Pastor and is responsible for conducting background checks, interviews, and other investigative aspects of the search process. All members of the team have not only shown competency and spiritual maturity, but also a consistency of service, disposition, and leadership skills. The Pastoral Search Committee is committed to the search process and will engage the congregation with regular updates.

First Baptist Church South Hill seeks a senior pastor (Pastor) to lead, teach and grow the church body in its goals to worship and glorify God, disciple the believers, provide pastoral care for our flock and evangelize the lost. The Pastor will provide a consistent testimony of a personal redemptive relationship with God through faith and belief in Jesus Christ, give evidence of a daily walk of prayer, Bible Study, and demonstrate an ability to win others to Christ. The Pastor will preach on Sundays and participate in other church functions. The Pastor will train, equip, and lead the church in evangelistic outreach ministries and participate in mission activities. The Pastor will serve as the chief administrator of the church to assure coordination and efficiency of the church staff, ministries, and their functions. The Pastor will lead with an attitude of service to God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and members of First Baptist Church South Hill.

First Baptist Church South Hill has a rich history. It grew out of two African American communities Money Point and South Hill and later became known as the “Little Church with a Big Heart.” First Baptist Church South Hill is 140 years old, established in 1883, when a group of members held their Prayer Services and Sunday School in the home of members in Norfolk County, Virginia. The church experienced tremendous growth under the leadership of several pastors over 14 decades. It experienced several large renovations/annexations, constructed new church buildings, and created new ministries. The church is located on 35 acres of land.

First Baptist Church South Hill is now known as the “Loving Church with the Big Heart” and is in Chesapeake, Virginia within the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. It is home to over 1,700 members and has a large Streaming and Facebook Live following and a variety of robust youth and adult programs.
